'Modern' day. Classified (underground?) facility. [HTTYD future timeline...?]
The Night Fury has been extinct for centuries. Actually, we're not even sure it exists. Despite the evidence of other dragons existing in its defined era, no evidence of the Night Fury's existence was found. Even after a colossal amount of money was provided by numerous countries for the research of these ancient dragons, the data collected by these research companies were either useless, or just not concrete enough to contribute to further knowledge of the dragon. And so it seemed the Night Fury faded into oblivion...
...or did it?
"My name is 'Luke'. I don't have any other name. At least, I don't think I do. They gave me this name. My memories were wiped before I started working in this...what is this place? A laboratory? A prison? Weapons research? Maybe all of it? It tires me to think. It doesn't help that they don't tell me anything. You can never tell the time here without looking at one of the clocks, either. "Its for the best," they tell me. I don't find that very comforting.
I was assigned to a team of scientists. I'm no scientist, but its mostly cleaning or getting coffee so it was okay. I involved myself with some sort of terrifying creature. I thought it was mechanical. I mean what creature breathes fire? I managed to take a peek at Dr. Grey's observations. 'Label: Night Fury, Description: Blue, male dragon'. Well that's very detailed observation, doc, but I guess that's a start.
I then started reading up on the facility's library. What wonderful creatures these dragons are! I wonder why we have one here. The books say dragons don't even exist. Within a few days, I eavesdropped on conversations and asked a lot of simple questions. I could understand why they keep details out, but if I asked simple things, they don't mind.
From what I heard, they built the guy from 'Deenay' they got from a site, whatever that means, but they couldn't keep them alive when they built them, so they mixed it in with this 'Monstrous Nightmare' dragon they already had. How horrible!
Later, I got assigned to cleaning this guy's place. Probably because I bothered them a lot. It has been a horrible experience, truth be told. He growls and bursts into flames. I get it, I wouldn't fancy being in his position either. I keep off his personal space and we'd be fine. I decided to call him 'Rigel' from a star book in the library. He looks like a pretty bright fellow. Literally. He seems less violent when I call him that, so we kept it.
Things turned violent a week into the cleaning job. Rigel burst into enormous flames! Blue, bright, and terrifyingly hot! The scientists were panicking as their tech stuff started sparking and smoking. They ran while hitting every red button they could. I would've ran, but I was on the lower entrance to the observation, and got locked in the area between the main door and the second safety door. I started shouting and screaming 'Let me out! I'm still in here!', but no one came.
I changed plans and started calling out to Rigel, telling him to stop. What terrifying eyes he had, as he looked at me. Like he was going to burn me and leave no trace. I froze where I stood, keeping the dragon in my sight. He charged right at the door, and when he failed to breach, fired blue flames onto the door. The flames stuck onto it, slowly melting the metal. It almost scared me to death, seeing such power. How did they not anticipate this?!
I was ready to die there, but I pleaded for my life anyway. I think I got through to him. He pressed his open claws on my chest. His fire was...cold? Bizarre as the sun at midnight. I realized that might not be the eyes of a killer I saw, but more of someone in pain. He then nudged me into the observation area, then melted down the second door. Rigel then kept going. I soon realized this was my chance to leave the place.
I tried to chase after Rigel, but I could hear the gunshots and explosions, so I stayed far behind as he wreaked havoc on anyone pointing anything at him. Such a carnage he left as we went through halls and stairs.
By the time we were outside, it was dark out. The only light left was from a full moon, a million stars, the light from the entrance behind me, and the low glow of Rigel's flame. He was obviously hurt, but he just burned all his wounds clean. What pain tolerance! Exhausted, we rested by this river a short walk down, and eventually fell asleep.
It's been a month now, and since that day we've decided to keep the facility as a hideout. I do feel bad about the violent stuff, but what more can I do? We burned all the dead bodies, and I mopped up all the blood. Ugh.
Rigel knows something is wrong with him. He knows he's not normal. In addition, I have no idea about why and how I got here to begin with. But hey, no one's here to bother us. With the documents they left, we'll figure things out... I hope."
I hope you enjoyed reading that rather rushed backstory of Luke, and The Monstrous Night Fury, Rigel!
I probably should've just uploaded a text thing
I didn't proofread it either
